A warning that today's heat and wind alerts raise fire risk

Metservice has forecast parts of Northland, the Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti, Wairarapa, Marlborough and Christchurch could top 30-degrees today.

Orange wind warnings have been issued for parts of the upper south as well.

Meteorologist Michael Pawley warns that the warm air and increased winds can see wildfires become out of control.

Fire and Emergency strongly urges the public to not light any fires or carry out any spark generating activities near vegetation.
