    Oscars 2026: Sinners break record with nominations, Jacob Elordi and Rose Byrne receive nods

    Vampire film Sinners broke the Academy Award record for nominations with 16, while Rose Byrne was recognised for If I had Legs I'd Kick You and Jacob Elordi got a nod for his role in Frankenstein.


    Australian actors Jacob Elordi and Rose Byrne have both received Oscars nominations, while Sinners broke the record for Academy Award nods with 16. 

    The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were officially announced on Thursday, with Byrne up for best actress in a leading role for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and Elordi nominated for his supporting actor role in Frankenstein.

    But it was the gothic vampire film Sinners that garnered the most attention, with a historic total of 16 nominations, including for best picture, cinematography and screenplay.   

    Actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman presented the nominations live from Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, California.

    When are the 2026 Oscars?

    The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

    For Australians the ceremony will start at around 11:00am AEDT on March 16.
