Tyler Perry broke his collarbone in a "terrible" bike fall

The 56-year-old filmmaker flew over the handlebars as he cycled around Elba, Italy, last year, which caused him to undergo surgery.

During Thursday's (12.02.26) episode of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Tyler - who was in Lake Como, Italy, shooting part three of his Why Did I Get Married Again? film series - recalled: "I went for a bike ride in Elba, and I flipped over the handlebars, broke my collarbone, and had to have surgery.

    "It was terrible."

Tyler branded being treated in an Italian hospital as the "worst mistake in my life".

He urged the programme's viewers: "If you're ever in Italy - God, I love my Italian people, but don't go to the hospital there."

Tyler - whose Why Did I Get Married Again? series sees four couples on vacation, who ask themselves the titular question, whilst their relationship secrets are spilled - then detailed the excruciating pain he endured after a medical worker put him in a clavicle brace to stabilise his injury.

The star remembered: "This guy, he looks at me, he says, 'I can fix. I can fix.'

"And he puts the strap on me, pulls ... I screamed so loud, man, I think I woke up everybody in the whole country. It was awful.

"I didn't know it was broken, and it separated in two places, and he was trying to pull it together with no pain meds. Nothing!

"So I got drunk as hell, got on the plane, and came back to America and had surgery. It was pretty bad."

Jimmy - who comes "from an Italian family" - was shocked that Tyler was no fan of the country's healthcare system.

The 58-year-old host quipped: "We never went to the doctor. Maybe that's why!"

Amid laughter from the show's studio audience, Tyler chimed in: "Yeah, but you don't want to go to the doctor in Italy, that's the thing.

    "That's a whole different [thing]."

Jimmy then challenged Tyler's negativity: "I feel like there must be some good doctors in Italy."

Tyler then joked as he doubled down on his bad experience: "No. There's good alcohol to make you think there's good doctors in Italy."
