Christchurch police are investigating a horror crash that's claimed two lives and left two others badly hurt

Emergency services were called after a car and ute collided in Hornby last night.

Four people were in the car - two were found dead at the scene.

The other two are in hospital in a critical and serious condition.

Those in the ute were also injured.

A scene examination was carried out overnight.
