Transpower says a temporary electricity tower will be up and running for Northland this morning

Transpower says a temporary electricity tower will be up and running for Northland this morning

The region experienced widespread power outages after a transmission tower fell down on Thursday, northwest of Auckland.

Transpower's Mark Ryall says the temporary tower's been raised, but due to Northland having sufficient power for the weekend, they decided to prioritise worker safety.

He says they ran into delays - so the decision was made not to transfer a circuit line from the fallen tower across to the temporary one in the dark last night.

Ryall says it'll be finished in time to boost capacity ahead of demand rising again from tomorrow morning.
