Kelsey Grammer says his family are "ecstatic" about his new baby boy

The 70-year-old actor welcomed son Christopher into the world last month, and he insisted his loved ones - including children Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and eight-year-old James with wife Kayte Walsh, as well as Spencer, 41, Greer, 33, Mason, 23, and Jude, 20, from previously relationships - are happy with their famous dad's new arrival.

He told PEOPLE magazine: "The family's ecstatic. We're all really having a great time. It's really lovely."

The Frasier star said it's been "awesome and fantastic" becoming a dad again, and he's still on great terms with the rest of his family.

He added: "We are closer than we've ever been as a family, and I'm proud of that."

Kelsey - who stars in new film The Christmas Ring - also opened up on his plans for the festive season.

He said: "The family doesn't like turkey quite so much, but I try to do prime rib and a turkey and a chicken, and we do Yorkshire puddings and mint sauce and all kinds of stuff.

"That's about it, really. We love trimming the tree. We go early on the tree, at least three weeks before Christmas, right after Thanksgiving."

Late last month, Kelsey announced he and his fourth wife Kayte has welcomed their new son into the world.

He told Pod Meets World: "Just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids!

"It was like three days ago. Christopher just joined the family."

The Frasier star - who acted with daughter Kandace on the sitcom's revival and with so Spencer in TV film The 12 Days of Christmas Eve - loves getting to spend time with his kids, particularly having them all "in the same room together".

He previously told Variety: "My work has allowed me to do that.

"I've been given this great experience. It's been painful and challenging and hard and tragic - all those things. But boy, it's a great life. And I want to pass that on to them."
