Wallabies record historic Test loss as France wins 48-33

The Wallabies lose a 10th Test in a calendar year for the first time, as France proves too strong in Saint-Denis.

The Wallabies have claimed some unwanted history following their 48-33 loss to France in the final Test of their spring tour.

It is the first time the Wallabies have posted 10 Test defeats in a calendar year, while not since 1958 have they gone winless on a European tour that included at least four internationals.

The loss at Stade de France followed defeats to Ireland (46-19), Italy (26-19) and England (25-7).

Prior to arriving in Europe, they struggled against Japan in Tokyo, before scraping home 19-15.

The Wallabies, who will host the 2027 World Cup, stayed in the fight against France but faded in the final 20 minutes.

The half-time score was 19-19 but France stepped up a gear after the break.

France's brilliance in broken play yielded tries for Nicolas Depoortère (two), Louis Bielle-Biarrey (2), Julien Marchand and Maxime Lamothe.

Thomas Ramos also crossed the stripe and added five conversions and a penalty goal.

The Wallabies scored tries through Matt Faessler (two), Angus Bell, Max Jorgensen and Josh Nasser.

Tane Edmed kept the scoreboard moving with four conversions.

The tourists did themselves with their poor discipline.

They only gave away three penalties in the first half but that total grew to 13 by full-time.

Wallabies back-rower Tom Hooper was also given a yellow card in the second half.

Pressure is set to mount on Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt, whose winning percentage has dipped below 40 per cent.

But there is enough support for the New Zealander to stay in the role before the pre-arranged handover to Les Kiss during the 2026 Test season.
