Former Gloriavale leader Howard Temple is appealing a 26-month jail sentence handed down earlier today

The 85-year-old admitted indecent offending against six girls and young women.

His legal team had sought home detention and have now confirmed an appeal has been filed, with Temple released on bail after a closed-door hearing.

Herald Reporter Anna Leask says Temple may not have caught much of the court discussion due to hearing difficulties.

She says he watched and listened, but didn't show any emotion during victim impact statements and just accepted his sentence.
