John Mellencamp wants his daughter Teddi Mellencamp to "move back to Indiana" amid her battle with stage four melanoma

The 74-year-old singer lives in Bloomington, Indiana, and he wished Teddi - who was diagnosed with stage two melanoma in 2022, and revealed in April 2025 that the serious type of skin cancer was at stage four - would move from the West Coast to the Midwest so he can see her more often.

However, the 44-year-old TV personality refuses to relocate from Encino, California, with her daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, five, and 11 year old son Cruz - whom she has with her estranged 48-year-old husband, TV star Edwin Arroyave.

Appearing on NBC's Today show on Friday (16.01.26), John told hosts Al Roker, 71, Craig Melvin, 46, and 44 year old Dylan Dreyer: "I'm going to go out and see her.

"I've tried to talk her into moving back home. I said, 'Move back to Indiana, bring the kids and just come back and live in Indiana,' but she won't do it."

John also updated viewers on how Teddi - who, in October 2025, revealed that tests showed her cancer was "undetectable" - was doing.

The Jack and Diane singer said: "You can't say you're cancer-free with the type of cancer she's got for three years.

"So she has lesions in her brain, it went from her back - just a little, teeny spot on her - and over the last couple years, it grew, and it got inside her brain and her lungs."

John noted that Teddi - who has had 17 melanoma spots, as well as four brain tumours, removed, and has successfully had immunotherapy, resulting in the growths to "significantly" shrink - "has good days" and "feels good" until she undergoes immunotherapy.

The musician said that his daughter "feels like hell for about four days" before she starts "feeling normal again".

John's appearance on the Today show comes days after he shared that Teddi is "really sick" - months after she revealed her cancer had become "undetectable" - and detailed the "suffering" his daughter is currently experiencing amid her battle with stage four melanoma.

Appearing on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, John said: "I do have a daughter that's really sick. She's not f****** fine. She's got cancer in the brain. And she's suffering right now."

Teddi was diagnosed with stage two melanoma in 2022, and revealed in April 2025 that the cancer was at stage four after the disease metastasised to her lungs and brain, resulting in her having a 50-50 chance of survival.

In October 2025, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum revealed that tests showed her cancer was "undetectable".

Teddi - who has documented her treatment and recovery with her fans online, and has urged them to get their yearly checks - told the iHeartRadio podcast Two T's in a Pod: "Just to give a little life update to you guys, I had my immunotherapy yesterday, and they did my scans, and at this point, there is no detectable cancer.

"I still need to be on immunotherapy for another year, and I'm not considered in remission or anything like that.

"When they told me, I was in such shock, I was numb. So I'm still going to be having days when I'm feeling sick and stuff because I am still in immunotherapy, so I'm still fighting because you have to be.

"The way they (doctors) said it works, it's like one year, then two years, then at three years you're allowed to be considered... in remission. So, that was huge news yesterday.

"All the tumours continued to shrink and everything. It's been good. It's a good day."
