New timetables, routes and buses will be put to the test after Tranzit took over the majority of the region's services.
Greater Wellington Regional councillor Daran Ponter says it's a big day for them.
He says school holidays are over, and they'll be joining other commuters on the new system.
Meanwhile, 50 bus drivers will take part in industrial action in Hutt Valley by only working 8 hour shifts - instead of the 14 some claim they're working.
Tranzit's managing director Paul Snelgrove doesn't believe it'll have a significant impact on the system.
He says they have the drivers they need and are committed to getting everyone where they need to go.
