Teachers say the big surplus announced by Treasury today shows the Government could end the education crisis today.
NZEI President Lynda Stuart says until now the Government's been saying it doesn't have the money to improve their offer to teachers.
But the strong economic result means it could revise its offer to primary teachers and principals - and avoid further strike action in November.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson says the 5.5 billion dollar surplus doesn't mean the Government's awash in cash.
But teachers say their claims come to an estimated 921 million ... which would include smaller class sizes, more support staff, and a 16 percent pay increase.
