A man and a woman in a dressing gown have been taken away by armed police, during a dramatic morning in a Hamilton suburb

Officers stormed a property on Heaphy Terrace in Fairfield about 6.30 this morning.

Local residents were woken by police, as they carried out a search warrant and took the pair away.

Minutes later, emergency services rushed to the nearby Baptist Church to reports of a person having an anxiety event.

Fire crews were then called away to a small fire in the same area.
