Calls to give our local councils more power

Calls to give our local councils more power

A protest in Christchurch yesterday saw over 2000 people march in opposition to an overseas bottling company gaining consent to take billions of litres of water.

Organiser Scott Esdaile says local councils' hands are tied by the Resource Management Act, and it's not good enough.

He says that moving forward, we should give more powers to our local councils and less to national government.

Esdaile says that as a nation, we're sick of being pushed around and told what to do without any public consultation.
