After a series of delays, the China-New Zealand Year of Tourism officially opened this morning
30 March 2019
A special ceremony was held at Te Papa, in Wellington, this morning with Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis and his Chinese counterpart Luo Shugang.
The opening schedule was originally planned for February, but delayed following what was described as "scheduling issues" - sparking all sorts of speculation over the New Zealand - China relationship.
Davis says the year-long initiative is an important chance for both countries to strengthen their cultural and economic ties.
He says New Zealand's relationship with China is one of our most important, with tourism being a significant strand in our bilateral relationship.
