Wellington landlord ordered to pay student a thousand dollars compensation
A Wellington landlord has been ordered to pay a student a thousand dollars compensation for giving her just five days' notice before building a new house in the backyard
29 April 2019
The Tenancy Tribunal has found landlord David Huang breached his obligations by interfering with his tenant Caitlin Bates' quiet enjoyment of the property.
Bates is a student who's home every day until 2pm - and the building goes from 7.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
The Tribunal adjudicator says the builders were playing music loudly and using a toilet inside the premises until spoken to about it.
Building materials are also left strewn around the outside of the house.
