The defending champions conceded 13 penalties, three of which were at scrum time, aiding the Sharks seven penalty goals.
Number eight Kieran Read says the Sharks were trying tricks that referee Brendon Pickerill fell for.
He says they were trying to be positive at scrum time.
Read says hopefully it's something the refs can learn from, as they want to play upbeat, fast rugby.
In Brisbane, the Reds have beaten the Sunwolves 32-26.
