Defensive performance from Northern Mystics defender Erena Mikaere stifles Mainland Tactix

A smothering defensive performance from Northern Mystics defender Erena Mikaere has stifled the Mainland Tactix and ended their play-off hopes

Mikaere claimed six intercepts and three deflections in the Mystics' 69-57 ANZ Premiership netball win in Auckland.

Waisake Naholo's the latest All Black to announce he's leaving New Zealand at the end of the year.

The Highlanders winger's signed with English Premiership club London Irish.

The Crusaders will begin their South African tour against the Bulls on Saturday morning with Richie Mo'unga at first-five, Jack Goodhue and Ryan Crotty combining in the midfield, Sevu Reece on the wing and David Havili returning to fullback.

The hits keep coming for Israel Folau, with shoe sponsor Asics ditching the Wallaby as an ambassador and saying their values no longer align.

Paralympic swimming champion Nikita Howarth is stepping away from sport due to medical reasons associated with an immune disease.

Howarth was 13 when she debuted at the 2012 London Games, became a world champion in the 200-metre SM7 individual medley the following, before going on to triumph in the discipline at Rio.

She took up track cycling in 2017.

Will Young's led a New Zealand XI to a seven-wicket win over Australia in their second unofficial one-day cricket international in Brisbane.

He's scored 130 runs off 132 balls as the visitors reached their 278-run target with 16 balls to spare.

Young was on stand-by for the World Cup but will now have shoulder surgery instead.

The Delhi Capitals have beaten the Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets with a ball to spare in their Indian Premier League cricket play-off.

Hyderabad posted 162 for eight with Martin Guptill scoring 36 off 19 balls but the Sunrisers were subject to Rishabh Pant - who's unwanted in India's World Cup squad - making 49 off 21 balls at the death.

Basketballer Enes Kanter is balancing religion and sport during the NBA play-offs.

Kanter is Muslim and fasting during Ramadan, while his Portland Trail Blazers compete against the Denver Nuggets for a spot in the western conference finals.

Fasting requires an abstinence of food and water between dawn and dusk - the side's most recent game in Denver started at 8.30pm, with sunset just 24 minutes earlier.

Chelsea's bid to bolster their squad for the next football season has been dealt a blow.

The English Premier League club has lost its bid to overturn a one-year transfer ban imposed by FIFA.
