A regional council has weighed in on a burn-off that saw half of Christchurch shrouded in smoke

A regional council has weighed in on a burn-off that saw half of Christchurch shrouded in smoke

Fire services evacuated several offices in the CBD on Tuesday - before discovering the smoke came from a controlled garden centre burn-off in Mairehau.

Environment Canterbury spokesperson Gillian Jenkins says they're investigating - but outdoor burning isn't allowed over winter in clean air zones - even on properties this big.
