A group of Western Bay of Plenty residents are pleading for the chance to have their road tar-sealed

A group of Western Bay of Plenty residents are pleading for the chance to have their road tar-sealed

A collective from Kumikumi Rd in the lower Kaimai Range packed the Western Bay of Plenty District Council chambers this week to push their cause.

Long-time resident Paul James says the dust from the road is so bad, a child with asthma has to be kept inside and has required medical attention.

Other issues include washing being covered in dust, homes forced to use air conditioning in summer because they can't open their windows, dust-contaminated animal feed, and damage to vehicles.

The 14 households pay a combined rates bill of more than 70 thousand dollars - in a district with the highest rates in New Zealand.

They hope their financial input will have some bearing on the council considering their request to seal the road.
