Millions of pigs overseas are being culled as African swine fever hits Asia.
The disease, which is harmless to humans but fatal to pigs, has no vaccination and there are fears it will continue to spread across the continent.
Veterinarian, Eric Neumann , says it's unlikely it will make its way to New Zealand, but giving pigs uncooked contaminated pork products will spread the disease.
He says in New Zealand giving pigs waste food is legal, but it must not contain raw meat.
