New information released under the Official Information Act shows there were 398 active claims against the Canterbury DHB for surgery-related treatment injuries in 2014.
The number has steadily climbed year after year - to 647 claims in 2018.
This is an increase of more than 60 percent.
Auckland's DHB had the largest number of active claims last year at 678.
