    Border force officer dies on patrol vessel in Torres Strait, Commissioner Michael Outram says

    An Australian Border Force officer has died onboard a patrol vessel in the Torres Strait, Commissioner Michael Outram says, offering his condolences to the officer's family.


    An Australian Border Force (ABF) officer has died onboard a patrol vessel in the Torres Strait overnight.

    ABF Commissioner Michael Outram offered his condolences to the officer's family and said he would not be releasing any further details.

    "My immediate concern is for the welfare of our officer's family and of the crew of the vessel," he said in a statement.

    "Ongoing welfare support is being provided to them and I have ensured that all ABF officers are offered support at this time."

    A coronial investigation will be launched and the ABF will work with the Queensland Police Service and Comcare.
