Negative childhood experiences don't play a role in poor mental health for sexual minority groups

A new University of Otago study shows Kiwis who are gay, lesbian and bisexual are twice as likely to experience depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts than heterosexuals.
Lead researcher, Doctor Janet Spittlehouse, says that's regardless of participants' childhood - including socioeconomic status and personality.
But that's not all.
She says bisexuals think about suicide five-times more than heterosexuals, with gays and lesbians idealising about it four-times more.
