Mark Belchamber is so affected by the trauma he's attended on the front line, he fears going out at night in case he comes across people dying or wounded.
Deciding he needed a break to work on his mental heath he sought help from ACC.
But they mishandled his case - leaving him struggling and ignored for almost five months.
After the Herald stepped in this week, the wheels started moving again.
His claim has finally been accepted and a full investigation is underway into how ACC failed him.
