Workplace safety rules to be refreshed

The government's starting consultation on how to improve the regulations around working with machinery, at height, and during excavations.

Fifty-eight people a year die from injuries involving those activities - that's three-quarters of all workplace deaths.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Iain Lees-Galloway says the current rules are outdated and full of gaps.

He says the three-month consultation periodis open to businesses and workers.
