    The main route between Christchurch and Nelson... is now open


    State Highway Seven from the Hanmer Turnoff to Spring's Junction at Lewis Pass was closed earlier because of snow.

    Chains remain essential for road users driving State Highway 73, between Arthur's Pass and Otira - while it's closed to towing vehicles.

    People driving State Highway Eight between Omarama and Tarras are being warned of ice on the roads.
