Getting out of the car could have as much health gain as targets to reduce smoking

Otago University research has found if cars were swapped for walking or cycling in a quarter of trips, the health gains would be comparable to those estimated under tobacco tax increases.
University Researcher Anja Mizdrak says people need to be encouraged to be active.
Mizdrak says only half of adults meet the national physical activity recommendations of 150 minutes of activity each week.
