Healthy people are being sought to take part in a trial of hookworm therapy
20 July 2019
Researchers from the Malaghan Institute in Wellington are hoping to find better treatment options for a range of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
That includes the likes of coeliac disease, asthma, allergies, MS and inflammatory bowel disease.
They will use hookworms, which can alter the immune system of their human host.
Up to 15 Wellington-based volunteers are being sought for the trial.
They'll be infected with a low, safe dose of hookworm larvae, and studied over the course of a year.
Participants will be compensated for their time.
