Man charged after telling Police prohibited firearms were stolen when he'd actually hidden them

A man's been charged after telling Police his prohibited firearms were stolen, when in fact he'd hidden them to avoid handing them in

The 25-year-old reported the burglary at his Coatesville, Auckland, home last Thursday.

He claimed someone had broken into his garage and stole two firearms.

But after a scene examination, the man admitted he'd hid the guns, and two more, in a ceiling cavity to try and avoid the nationwide buy-back scheme. He will appear in North Shore District Court Friday.
