A remote lodge in South Canterbury's Rangitata Gorge has burned to the ground

Fire and Emergency took over an hour to reach the remote location - where they found the building completely destroyed.
A spokesman says one crew will stay on to dampen down the site - and the rest will head back.
There are reports the fire took place at Mesopotamia Station.
The historic homestead was founded by celebrated English author Samuel Butler in 1860.
