A coroner's report into the death of a two month old Northland baby, shows the message on safe co-sleeping still has a way to go

The baby died in 2017 after her mother breastfed her after consuming a large amount of alcohol.
However the report also notes the baby was put to bed with her twin in the same cot, before being moved to another bed with both of her parents and two children.
Hapai te Hauora chief executive Selah Hart says babies need to have their own safe place to sleep, or be properly protected when sharing a bed.
She says tools like pepi-pods or bassinets help ensure babies have clear airways when they sleep.
