Alcohol Action New Zealand has slammed ten years of different Governments failing to act on alcohol law reforms.
It says in the last decade, booze has contributed to eight thousand premature deaths and seven hundred thousand physical and sexual assaults.
Up to thirty thousand children have been born with alcohol-related brain damage and the social cost is estimated at seventy billion dollars.
Chair Dr Geoffrey Robinson says the Government needs to look at measures like putting up the price of booze, making it less accessible, and reducing marketing and sponsorship.
