Stats NZ figures show in the year to June, 570-million-dollars was spent on cruises - a 28 percent jump on the previous year.
It's the biggest increase in spending ever recorded.
Cruise Association chief executive Kevin O'Sullivan says it's compliment to New Zealand's tourism sector.
He says it's an easy country for cruise ships to navigate and it's an attractive destination for passengers who can do lots of activities in a relatively short space of time.
