Traffic delays for drivers in the Christchurch suburb of Riccarton - after a fatal stabbing

A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a man in his 40s from serious stab wounds, in an incident that occurred just before 9 last night.

Clarence Street and Wainui Streets are cordoned while police investigate the two related scenes.

Ben Alexander lives across the road from the address where the stabbing occurred and says they didn't hear anything at the time.

But he says he feels a bit uneasy waking up the next morning.

The homicide is believed to be gang related.
