Opuha Dam operators want to reassure people in South Canterbury - they're safe.
They've been checking for erosion after discoloured water was spotted flowing from drains at the base of the dam.
The 50 metre-high dam near Fairlie holds over 74 million cubic metres of water.
Opuha Chief Executive Andrew Mockford says there's no need for concern.
He says they've flown in overseas experts - and are taking extra precautions while they investigate.
