Owens in the most capped test referee of all time and was in charge of the 2015 World Cup final.
All Blacks coach Ian Foster says they are happy, but they would have been happy with whoever they got.
In other games South Africa's Jaco Peyper will referee the Wales-France quarterfinal, Frenchman Jerome Garces will control the England-Australia game and England's Wayne Barnes will be in charge of Japan and South Africa.
