A rise in Australian gangs on our shores has police concerned

Deportees are being pinned as the biggest issue - bringing with them ties to gangs like the Comancheros, the Rebels and the Banditos.

It's been addressed at the Police Association annual conference, where the groups have been described as more violent than those already established here.

Assistant commissioner of serious and organised crime, Richard Chambers says it's all about influence.

He says it's about using brand, the overt display of wealth and social media in an attempt to recruit.
