A smart-phone sleep app may provide vital evidence on the death of an alleged car thief

Thirty-six year old Jason Murray died in hospital yesterday after being injured in a confrontation with a van-owner in Auckland's Te Atatu early on Sunday.
A neighbour later realised a phone app recording his sleep noises, picked up the altercation.
He's given the the recording to police.
Police say the van's owner was acting in self-defence and is "distraught" .
