Fire crews will return this morning to battle a blaze in South Otago

The fire began at the edge of Te Papanui Conservation Park near Middlemarch just before 11am yesterday.

By 6pm, it had burned through just over two-thousand-700 hectares of remote tussock and scrub.

One property has been evacuated as a precaution.
