A close call for Muriwai's famous gannet colony in Auckland, after fireworks sparked a vegetation fire nearby

Fire crews were called in from Kumeu, Waitakere, West Harbour and Kaukapakapa.

A Muriwai community Facebook page has shared the details of the fire, reminding people fireworks are banned from public places like the beach and regional park, and the risk they pose wildlife.
