Paramedics onboard a bus had to stop and assist those involved in a multi vehicle crash in Canterbury

Two people have died and seven others injured following the crash on Main South Road in Bankside just before nine.

Bridget Shimmin was on an Intercity bus that arrived on the scene not long after the crash

She says she heard a loud bang - and one of the cars ended up at least 100 metres down the road.

The bus waited at the scene - while several paramedics on board went to help.

The road is closed between Breadings and Old South Road.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.
