    One person is in hospital with serious burns after a house fire in Nelson


    Fire crews were called to a home on Montreal Road in Toi Toi just before 7 last night, to find it well alight.

    Fire and Emergency understands the person tried to fight the blaze themselves with a garden hose, and tried to re-enter the home.

    Meanwhile, a house has been badly damaged by fire at Canterbury's Charteris Bay.

    Fire and Emergency says the blaze -- which broke out just after 5 last night -- doesn't appear to be suspicious.
