Police say they're still investigating how it happened.
The woman was travelling towards the city on the North Western motorway when the bullet struck, around 9.40 on Friday morning.
The bullet shattered the car's windscreen and hit her just after she'd passed under the Royal Road overbridge.
Police don't believe she was deliberately targeted and have been appealing for witnesses.
A spokesman says their investigations are continuing.
