Teens involved in a fatal chase won't unlock a phone to give evidence to police

18-year-old Jayden Breakwell's been jailed for two years and eight months - after pleading guilty to manslaughter and reckless driving at the High Court in Christchurch.

He was driving a carload of five teens that fled police in Christchurch's Fendalton in October and ran a red light fatally hitting 64-year-old Kenneth McCaul.

Breakwell broke down as a statement from the victim's husband was read out.

But his lawyer, Elizabeth Bulger, says he's the only teen who's taken responsibility for the harm caused.

Breakwell claimed he wanted to stop for police - but another passenger urged him to keep driving.

Bulger says there's footage from that night on a cellphone - but none of the teens in the car will unlock it or tell police who owns it.
