A Maori leader is calling for accountability on climate change action

A Maori leader is calling for accountability on climate change action

Six people have been appointed to the independent Climate Commission, but Maori Climate Commissioner, Donna Awatere Huata, says one Maori representative focused on agri-business - isn't good enough.

She says karakia, utu and rahui are concepts for immediate protection of the land and water.

Awatere Huata says the Maori world-view calls for respecting the environment right now, rather than leaving it for our grandchildren to deal with.
