The first fully electric ferry in the southern hemisphere will arrive in Wellington this year.
Operating between the city and Days Bay, the new ferry will save up to 250-thousand-dollars worth of energy.
Wellington Electric Boat Building Company Managing Director Fraser Foote says the deal is too good for ferry operators to pass up.
He says it doesn't cost less to build, but it certainly costs less to maintain, and they already have several clients who want to change their whole fleet.
