The blaze has now spread over 140 hectares and one house as been evacuated, after high winds hampered last night's efforts to put the fire out.
Helicopters with monsoon buckets and at least 65 firefighters were battling eight fires around the Hawke's Bay region yesterday, including one in Waipatiki Forest that was burning out of control.
A separate grass fire that broke out in Hawke's Bay's Fernhill has been fully extinguished.
