The woman was kicked unconscious when she disturbed a burglar at Warkworth's St John station on Sunday night.
New Zealand First's Protection for First Responders and Prison Officers Bill proposes six months jail time for attacking a first responder.
Party spokesperson for police and justice Darroch Ball says there's an increasing disrespect for first responders, and they shouldn't be used as 'punching bags'.
