56-year-old Rodney Day has pleaded guilty to deception and forgery and been sentenced to seven months home detention and 150 hours community work in the Christchurch District Court.
Peter Adolph was in court today and says he hired Day to make alterations to his Harewood home - but he made off with the deposit part way through.
He says it ended up costing him a fortune.
Adolph says not only did he pay Day for work he didn't finish - but he also had to re-do the unfinished work.
