PHARMAC has struck a provisional deal to fund Kalydeco - a medicine which will improve the lives of people with a specific mutation of the disease.
It comes after an 11-thousand-signature petition was delivered to Parliament in November - calling for immediate funding of the drug.
PHARMAC hopes prescriptions will be available by March 1st.
Cystic fibrosis is life-threatening - as it affects people's ability to breathe and digest food.
